Workplace EV charger load management explained

Load management controls how available electrical capacity is shared between chargepoints. It can help a site add more sockets without every vehicle drawing maximum power simultaneously. Explore the complete workplace ev charger installation guide.

Static and dynamic approaches

A static limit caps the charging system at a fixed level. Dynamic load management monitors wider site demand and adjusts charging capacity as other loads rise or fall.

Questions for an installer

Ask what happens if communications fail, how priorities are set, whether critical vehicles can be guaranteed energy and what monitoring or subscription is required.

  • Maximum site import and measured peak demand
  • Number and type of vehicles
  • Required departure times
  • Future socket expansion
  • Solar, batteries or on-site generation

When a network upgrade may still be needed

Load management cannot create energy that is not available. High-mileage fleets, short dwell times or future growth may still justify a new connection or supply upgrade after proper assessment.
